What Is Glitch Text?

It's normal text with stray Unicode marks shoved in until it looks like a dying screen. Slashed? That's a long solidus overlay, a name only a font nerd could love. Blocky? Shade characters like ▓ get wedged in between. Odd fonts? Each letter swaps for a maths copy of itself.

No font gets installed and nothing is a picture. That's why it pastes. Your phone just draws the extra marks on top of the letters, the same way it draws the accent on café.

What Broke While I Built It

Font Flicker was meant to pull from plain Fraktur and the double-struck letters too. Then the holes showed up. Plain Fraktur has no C, H, I, R or Z of its own, since those five (ℭ ℌ ℑ ℜ ℨ) were already sitting in an older Unicode block when the maths set got made. So a random pick kept landing in a hole. Double-struck is worse, with seven gaps. Bold Fraktur has none, so that's the one in the mix now, next to five other sets with all 52 letters.

Numbers stay plain in Font Flicker, because I'd rather an error code like 404 or a year like 1999 stay easy to read when someone's squinting at a cracked phone.

Wide Error shouts on purpose. Full-width letters came from Japanese and Chinese computers, where a Latin letter had to fill the same square as a kanji. Small ones exist, but caps look boxier, and that's why it turns everything into capitals.

Glitch Font Generator or Glitch Text?

Same tool, different name. People search for a glitch font generator because the result looks like a new font. It isn't one. A font only changes how letters get drawn on your own screen, while these are real characters, so whoever you send them to sees the same mess with no download.

Where Glitch Text Copy and Paste Works

Discord is the easy win. Messages, server names and nicknames all keep the marks. TikTok and Instagram bios mostly do as well. Watch the length, though. Slash Glitch doubles your character count, because every letter drags its slash along, so a 20-letter name counts as 40.

Games are hit and miss. Roblox won't even let you try with usernames: letters, numbers, one underscore, done. Chat's looser. Send one test line to a friend before the big group sees it. And screen readers hate all of this, since a blind follower's phone may read each mark out loud. I'd keep glitch text out of anything people truly need to read.

Glitch Text Questions

What is glitch text called? Zalgo, if it's the stacked kind. The name comes from a 2004 forum meme about a creepy being who wrecked comic strips. The slashed and blocky kinds don't really have a name, so people just say glitch text.

How do I turn glitch text back to normal? Paste it in the Glitch Text to Normal Text box. Marks and blocks get stripped, and maths letters turn back into plain ones. One catch: accents go too, so café comes back as cafe.

Does glitch text work on Discord? Yes. The catch is the 32-character nickname cap, and every mark counts, so a slashed nickname fits about 16 letters.

Can you make moving glitch text? No. Pasted text sits still, so for movement you'd want a GIF maker. Cheap trick, though: post one line in two styles back to back and the chat looks like it hiccuped.

Why do I see boxes instead of glitch text? Missing glyphs. The device has no drawing for that character, so it shows an empty box. The ҉ fuzz and the maths fonts are the usual suspects on old Android phones and smart TVs.
