About Fancy Text Generator
Here's the odd thing about this fancy text generator: there's no font in it. Type a name in the box and you get 27 takes on it, all built from strange letters that were already sitting in your phone. Paste one into a bio and it looks the same to the people who see it, since their app reads from that same huge list of characters.
So What Is Fancy Text?
It's plain text made of look-alike letters. ๐๐ผ๐น๐ฑ? Math symbols. โธโโกโโโโ? Old marks for numbered lists in Japanese and Korean type. ๏ผท๏ฝ๏ฝ๏ฝ ? Letters cut to sit snug next to Chinese characters.
The bold and gothic sets showed up in Unicode 3.1 back in 2001, so a math paper could tell a bold x from a plain one without a font file. I doubt anyone in that room pictured a Free Fire lobby. Wikipedia's chart of the math letters has every one of them, if you want to stare at 996 versions of the alphabet.
One Name, Six Ways
These are real runs. I typed each name the way people do, then copied what the boxes gave back.
| Typed | Style | What came out |
|---|---|---|
Look at the last row. The year stays plain, and that's not me being lazy. Unicode has a bold 2 and a double-struck 2, but it never got an italic one, so there's nothing to swap in. Greek has the same issue with g and z, which is why the shadow name keeps a couple of normal-looking bits if you squint.
The Boxes That Don't Quite Behave
Most styles cover every letter. A few have gaps, and I'd rather you know before you paste a half-styled name into your profile.
| Style | Left as plain text |
|---|---|
| Subscript | b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y, z and every capital |
| Superscript | q, plus capital C, F, Q, S, X, Y, Z |
| Tiny | s and x |
| Greek | g, q, z, ten capitals, all numbers |
| Italic, Medieval, Squared, Asian Style | numbers |
Subscript is the worst of the bunch, and it's not our doing. The few tiny low letters that exist were added for people who write down speech sounds, and they only needed some of them. Nobody asked for a subscript q.
Also, Circled and Bubbles print the exact same letters right now. Copy one. You don't need both.
Where Each Style Holds Up
Length is what trips people up, more than looks. Sparkles puts an emoji between every letter, so a ten-letter name like shadowking comes out at 41 characters. Discord stops nicknames at 32, which means that one simply won't save. Hearts and Wave roughly double the length too.
Instagram gives you 150 characters for a bio, and I'd spend them on Bold or Medieval for the name and keep the rest plain. WhatsApp is a funny case: it already does strike and monospace on its own if you wrap words in ~ or three backticks, so the boxes here mostly matter for your status and your name.
Gaming names are where people reach for the wilder sets, like Asian Style and Greek. Every game has its own rules about which symbols it'll take, so test it in the name box before you pay for a rename card.
A Catch Most Sites Skip
A screen reader doesn't see "maya" in bold. It sees four math symbols, and on some phones it reads each one out by its long official name, which turns a cute bio into a strange little speech. So keep the fancy part to a word or two and leave anything people need, like a shop link or your pronouns, in normal letters. Our guide on Instagram bios and screen readers goes deeper on this.
Google's got the same blind spot. To a search box, ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ and maya don't share a single letter, so if people need to find your shop by name, keep the shop name plain. I'd hate to see a cake stall vanish from search over a font.
I kept two cousins of this page apart on purpose. The Discord font page sticks to names and chat, and the cursive one has 28 loopy script styles (twenty would've done, honestly).
Questions People Type In
Is fancy text a font? No. It's separate characters, and that's the whole trick: a font stays on your laptop, but these ride along when you paste them into a group chat.
Why do I see empty boxes instead of letters? Missing glyphs. Your phone has no picture for that symbol, so it draws a blank box, which type nerds call tofu. An old tablet at your aunt's place will serve you plenty of it. This guide on apps that block these letters has the long version.
What is the fancy font called? Nothing, really. If someone wants the nerdy name, Bold, Medieval, Double Struck and Monospace live in a Unicode block called Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols. Asian Style just grabs Chinese characters that happen to look Latin, like ๅ standing in for A.
Does fancy text work on Discord? Mostly. I'd pick Double Struck for a server nickname and leave the emoji styles alone, because 32 characters go quick when every letter drags a โจ along with it.
Can I use it for Roblox or TikTok? TikTok, usually fine. Roblox, a coin toss. Its chat filter turns lots of odd symbols into ####, so send one word to a friend before you build a whole bio around it.
How do I copy it? Hit the little ๐ Copy button under the style you want. It flips to Copied! for two seconds so you know it took.
